Medical Health Information Technologists can work in a variety of different areas such as coding, insurance billing, medical or hospital administrative assisting and insurance.

Health Information Technologist duties can include:

  • Using computers to run spreadsheets, word processing, accounting software programs, and administrative duties
  • Working with patients on the phone and in person
  • Dictation, working with the patient record, billing, insurance, and coding
  • Understanding and working with medical terminology, pathophysiology and anatomy and physiology
  • Assisting the physician during the examination

  • Must also be flexible, demonstrate ethical, moral principles
