Heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration technicians (known as HVAC technicians) have a wide variety of responsibilities, so when you work in the industry, no two days are alike.

Depending upon the company you work for, you may have service calls to residential clients on one day while the next could have them installing an industrial refrigeration system.

What do they do?

HVAC techs install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair residential and commercial climate control systems. Their responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Connecting systems to fuel and water supply lines, air ducts, and other components
  • Determining energy use of the system and making recommendations to improve efficiency
  • Inspection and maintenance of systems
  • Installing electrical wiring and controls and testing for proper operation
